
The scope of this project included reconstructing and repaving the entire 1.5-mile racing surface of the world-renowned Texas Motor Speedway, along with the pit road giving race teams access to the track. Sunmount Paving teams began work on January 9th of 2017 and completed the project that April in preparation for the NASCAR Cup Series O’Reilly Auto Parts 500. The new configuration included grade changes in Turns 1 and 2, reduced banking in those segments from 24 to 20 degrees, and an expanded racing surface from 60 to 80 ft. Turns 3 and 4 remained unchanged. In addition, teams installed updated drainage systems. In total, Sunmount Paving laid 18,402 tons of new asphalt material in 31 days.
